The Liberation Legacy Collective
It all began with an idea. The Liberation Legacy Collective is a coalition partnership of nonprofits based on Ethel Seiderman’s vision that challenged individual leaders to cultivate a shared space in solidarity to realize their respective missions. This Collective is now inviting nonprofit organizations to join the global ecosystem that reward three core values of reciprocal trust, gratitude, and generosity. Join us to leave your legacy!
What is the Liberation Collective?
Nonprofit organizations within the global collective are manifesting their ecosystem network of colleagues, donors, and clients guided by three design principles:
1) Circle Leadership– Rewarding Reciprocal Trust
Organizations agree to make certain decisions by utilizing a distributive leadership model while providing veto opportunities for those most impacted (each organization determines which decisions are consensus)
2) Restorative Practice– Rewarding Gratitude
Organizations agree to practice gratitude by utilizing equitable nonviolent practices to navigate and minimize conflict through the organization’s daily operations (internal disputes, hiring practices, food selection, conflict management, etc.)
3) Gift Economy– Rewarding Generosity
Organizations agree to engage in services if the other party is aligned with its values, and instead of a contract, receive a gift to their nonprofit for the services provided (a contract can still be written, but the amount is at the discretion of the receiving organization after the published price is provided)
Purpose
Our coalition exists to:
Offer the next iteration of community building that values reciprocal trust, gratitude, and generosity.
Create a mutual aid network among non-profits that are grounded in circle leadership, restorative practices, and a gift economy model. This sustains leaders who have consistently demonstrated brilliance and impact, ensuring their work thrives over time.
Believe in “practicing to the practice” of cultivating strong, authentic relationships as the foundation for change. The process is as essential as the outcome. How we do something is as important as to what we accomplish.
How We Work
Gather quarterly (or monthly) to celebrate and practice our three core values: trust, gratitude, and generosity.
Engage in activities such as reading groups, strategic planning, and shared learning.
Outcomes
The practice of cultivating this ecosystem eventually becoming a model for other communities to do the same. Together, we grow stronger—especially in times when our work feels most urgent and charged. While rooted in social justice, our journey aims not only to resist systems of oppression but also to model an alternative way of life—one with less control, violence, and greed, and more balance between process and outcomes.
Why It Matters
The question we are trying to address is the adverse impact of the global trifecta pandemic (health, climate, & social unrest) as a result of the greed of a few, the complicity of many, and the ignorance of most. While there are many approaches, this approach is focused on creating new iteration of community. We are amid a collective consciousness in response to our interconnectedness as the world population navigates the current systems that reward one’s selfishness, tolerate violence, and promote greed.
The current form of leadership system rewards the concept of being in control, by having a distorted belief of abusing power, leading to normalizing the patriarchal hierarchy, that the person on top knows best
The current form of tolerating emotional, verbal, physical, and fear-based systems that lead to hurt people hurting more people as normal, such that our society permits the violent, inhumane treatment of others
The current economic system promotes greed by maximizing profits while reducing all costs, even when it harms people & planet.
While the solutions to our challenges continue to evade empathetic & collective humanity, our hypothesis for change is to address the root challenges of the current system.
